David Shikfu Parradang Death: The reported death of David Shikfu Parradang, a former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has sparked controversy following conflicting reports on the cause of his demise. While initial reports suggested he was kidnapped and killed, the Nigerian police have refuted such claims, stating that he was found dead in a hotel room in Abuja.
Conflicting Reports on David Shikfu Parradang’s Death
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, known for reporting counter-insurgency activities, initially claimed that Parradang was abducted near the Area 1 axis of Abuja. According to Makama, the ex-immigration chief was trailed from a bank where he had withdrawn money, robbed of his cash, and later murdered by unknown assailants.
“The tragic incident has raised fresh concerns over security in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly regarding the increasing cases of kidnappings and targeted attacks,” Makama stated in a post.
However, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed this version of events, presenting a different account of how Parradang met his end.
Police Account: No Evidence of Kidnapping
In an official statement, FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed that Parradang was not abducted or killed by kidnappers as widely speculated. Instead, he was found lifeless in a hotel room in Abuja under circumstances that remain under investigation.
According to the police report, on March 3, 2025, at around noon, Parradang checked into Joy House Hotel, located at Area 3 Junction in Abuja. He arrived in a black Mercedes Benz and booked a one-night stay, paying N22,000. Later that day, he was visited by a woman who spent some time in his room before leaving the hotel around 4:00 PM.
Parradang did not emerge from his room after that. Concerned about his whereabouts, a military officer friend traced him to the hotel in the early hours of March 4. Upon entering the room with the hotel receptionist, they found him unresponsive, seated in a chair.
Investigation Underway
Following the discovery, officers from the Durumi Police Station were notified, and they secured the scene for further examination.
The police took photographs and gathered evidence to aid the ongoing investigation. Parradang’s body was subsequently transferred to the National Hospital for an autopsy.
Authorities have also confirmed that hotel staff are cooperating with the investigation. While preliminary findings have ruled out kidnapping, the police emphasized their commitment to uncovering the true cause of his death.
Who Was David Shikfu Parradang?
Parradang was a distinguished figure in Nigeria’s immigration service, serving for over 30 years in various capacities. His career took him across the country, with postings in Kano, Lagos, Kwara, Enugu, and the Federal Capital Territory.
He was honored with the national title of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and was a distinguished graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). His contributions to Nigeria’s security and immigration policies were widely recognized both nationally and internationally.
Security Concerns in the Federal Capital Territory
While the police have refuted the claim that Parradang was a victim of kidnapping, the initial reports have reignited discussions on security challenges in Abuja. Over the past few months, there has been a noticeable rise in criminal activities, including kidnappings and targeted attacks, which have put residents on edge.
Makama’s assertion that the ex-immigration boss was abducted and killed after a robbery underscores the growing concerns about personal safety in the capital city. The police have assured the public that they are actively working to ensure security and prevent the spread of misinformation.
Calls for Transparency in Investigation
Despite the police’s statement, some members of the public and security experts have called for transparency in the ongoing investigation. The sudden and mysterious nature of Parradang’s death has left many questions unanswered, particularly regarding the identity of his last visitor and the exact cause of death.
The police have urged the public to remain patient and refrain from speculating until the full details of the autopsy and investigation are made available.
