A viral photo of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu at a hair clinic has stirred confusion online. Many believed he had been freed from Kamiti Prison, where he is serving a 12-year sentence for corruption.
A wave of confusion swept across social media after a picture showing former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu at a local hair transplant clinic went viral.
The image, shared by the Artistic Hair Transplant Centre, was captioned, “Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, thank you for trusting Artistic Hair Transplant Centre.”
This sparked widespread speculation that the former county boss had been released from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, where he has been serving time for corruption.
Many Kenyans were quick to assume Waititu had secretly been freed.
However, investigations revealed that the photo was not recent. The clinic later confirmed that it was taken in March 2024, long before Waititu’s imprisonment.
The management of Artistic Hair Transplant Centre explained that the post was simply a throwback update meant to highlight past clients and was not intended to suggest a current visit.
Waititu was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of involvement in a KSh 588 million corruption scandal during his tenure as governor.
In May 2025, Justice Lucy Njuguna dismissed his latest appeal for bail, saying the application lacked merit.
The court ordered that Waititu remain in custody while his appeal is being heard.
As of now, there has been no official statement confirming any change in Waititu’s legal status.
He remains at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, and the viral photo has been confirmed to be misleading.
The incident serves as another reminder of how old content shared online can easily spark false reports and confuse the public when taken out of context.
