John Tingoi, a final-year Applied Computer Science student at Chuka University, won the 2025 IQC Kenya Finals.

John Tingoi, a final-year Applied Computer Science student at Chuka University, has earned global recognition after winning the Kenyan leg of the 2025 International Quant Championship (IQC). He emerged top among 9,000 Kenyan contestants and outshone nearly 89,000 participants worldwide to become one of only 12 finalists advancing to the Global Finals in Singapore this September.

Organised by WorldQuant, the IQC is a premier quantitative finance contest that challenges participants to build predictive financial models using advanced mathematics, coding, and statistics. Tingoi’s win secured his place in the Global Finals scheduled for September 29–30, 2025.

Beyond the competition, Tingoi works remotely as a researcher for WorldQuant, where he applies algorithms to forecast market movements and manage investment risks. For his final year project, he is developing a Blockchain-Based Healthcare Records Management System, showing his versatility in both finance and technology.

At the Singapore finals, Tingoi and the other global contestants will present their models before senior WorldQuant judges. Winners will share KSh 13.2 million in prize money, with the top three teams earning up to KSh 2.6 million. The contest also opens doors to internships, consulting, and full-time opportunities at WorldQuant.

Tingoi’s achievement positions him as one of Kenya’s rising tech and finance talents, bringing international recognition to Chuka University and the country at large.
