Ceiling collapse at Limpopo school injures 20 pupils
South Africa: A classroom ceiling at Dingamanzi Primary School in Giyani collapsed on Friday, injuring 20 grade 3 pupils. The incident occurred shortly after the children returned from break.
The injured learners were quickly attended to by school staff and taken to nearby clinics. Fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening, and all pupils have since been discharged.
The collapse prompted concerned parents to withdraw their children from the school, demanding safer classrooms and mobile facilities while an investigation is launched.
Limpopo Education spokesperson Mike Maringa confirmed that the classroom block had been recently renovated and denied prior safety concerns.
Authorities are working with the school governing body and contractors to determine the cause of the collapse and ensure accountability.
