BUSHIRI AND WIFE WIN EXTRADITION APPEAL
The Malawi High Court has overturned a lower court’s decision that would have allowed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary Bushiri, to be sent back to South Africa to face trial.
The ruling, delivered in Lilongwe on Friday, found that the facts or the law did not support the Magistrate’s March 2025 order to extradite the couple.
The judge said the lower court failed to properly consider the Bushiris’ right to life and their claims of harassment by South African police.
The court noted that the hearing was one-sided and that the couple were not given a fair chance to present their version of events.
This decision stops the process of sending the Bushiris back to South Africa, where they face charges including fraud and money laundering.
