Ex-Ireland international leads race as Bees search for Thomas Frank’s successor

Brentford could soon name Keith Andrews as their next head coach, with the club said to be leaning towards promoting from within.

Andrews, currently in charge of set pieces at the club, is understood to be the leading candidate to take over after Thomas Frank’s exit to Tottenham earlier this month.

Sources close to the club have revealed that discussions are moving smoothly, although no deadline has been fixed for the appointment.

Brentford are keen to make the right call as they begin life without Frank, who spent seven seasons at the helm and was key in guiding them from the Championship to a solid Premier League side.

Andrews: A First-Time Manager With Rich Experience

Though this would be Andrews’ first full managerial job, his coaching journey is already impressive.

Before landing at Brentford in July 2024, he worked with Sheffield United and served as assistant to Stephen Kenny for the Republic of Ireland between 2020 and 2023.

A Former Midfield Engine

As a player, Andrews was a hardworking midfielder who began at Wolves in 1999 and went on to feature for Hull City, MK Dons, and Blackburn Rovers.

He also earned 35 caps for Ireland, bringing a wealth of playing experience that has since transitioned into coaching.

Other names mentioned in the conversation for the job included Ange Postecoglou, Kieran McKenna, and Francesco Farioli, but Andrews now appears to be the front-runner.

Brentford’s next manager will have big shoes to fill, but if things go as expected, the club may soon put their faith in a familiar face—someone who knows the team, the dressing room, and the club’s philosophy inside out.
