Popular Kenyan musician and businesswoman Esther Akoth, widely known as Akothee, has publicly asked for financial support to help sustain the operations of her school, Akothee Academy.
Her appeal surprised many, as it revealed she has been singlehandedly financing the institution, which is situated in Rongo, Migori County.
Through a Facebook post, Akothee explained that she has been funding the academy directly from her personal earnings since it opened.

She disclosed that she pays tuition and takes care of the daily upkeep for the majority of the students about 80 percent of the school population.
Additionally, she has been responsible for paying the teachers and staff for over a year, a burden that is becoming harder to manage as the economy worsens.
One of the biggest operational challenges, she noted, is transportation. Since December 2023, when the school began operations, Akothee has relied on hired vans to transport learners.

This arrangement, initially manageable, has now become unsustainable and too costly in the long run. She emphasized the need for a permanent school bus to ease financial strain and improve the academy’s stability.
Akothee therefore called on well-wishers to come together and help her raise Ksh 4 million, the amount required to purchase a school bus.

She also provided the paybill number 205024 and account name Akothee Foundation for contributions. Her appeal aims to ensure that the academy continues to serve its students without interruption.
