Aga Khan V awarded Kenya’s highest civilian honor
The Government of Kenya has conferred its highest civilian honor, the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart, upon Shah Karim al-Husayni, Aga Khan V, the spiritual leader and present Imam of the Ismaili Muslim community.
President William Ruto presented the prestigious award during a ceremony at the State House in Nairobi. Traditionally, the honor is reserved for heads of state and exceptional global leaders.
Accepting the award in recognition of past contributions and as a pledge for future partnership, the Aga Khan expressed his commitment to working with the people of Kenya to build “an inclusive, just, and hopeful future.”
Two agreements signed.
The first renewed the long-standing partnership between the Ismaili Imamat and the Government of Kenya, while the second memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlined enhanced cooperation in areas such as environment, climate change, urban renewal, and cultural heritage.
President Ruto praised the Aga Khan’s decades of service through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), calling it a trusted partner of Kenya in the fields of education, health, employment, culture, and environmental stewardship.
