African Nations Must Unite To Drive Continent’s Agenda At G20, Says Ramaphosa
President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on African countries and the African Union to speak with one voice and champion the continent’s priorities at the G20.
Addressing African Heads of State at a reception dinner in Johannesburg, held on the eve of the first-ever G20 Leadership Summit hosted on African soil, Ramaphosa said the gathering presents a pivotal opportunity for the continent.
He emphasised that Africa must seize the moment to push forward its shared development agenda, insisting that unity is essential to influence global decision-making.
Strengthening Africa’s Influence on the Global Stage
Ramaphosa noted that South Africa’s focus at the summit centres on elevating African interests at the highest levels of global governance.
“As African countries, we therefore need to use the G20 to advance our agenda. South Africa correctly felt that we need to put the interests of our continent on the global platform,” he said.
He added that collective strength would allow African nations to shine a spotlight on the issues they want addressed by the world’s most powerful economies.
Harnessing Collective Power for Continental Progress
The President poited out that a coordinated African approach would make it harder for global leaders to overlook key challenges affecting the continent.
“By harnessing our collective strengths, we do believe that we can continue to highlight the many issues that the African continent wants the world to address,” Ramaphosa said.
His remarks at the event set the tone for a historic summit expected to shape Africa’s role in future G20 engagements.
