In Tharaka Nithi County, a young girl’s determination has touched many hearts. Scholastica Waruona, a bright student who had just completed her Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment, made a bold decision when life stood in her way.

After scoring an impressive 54 points, Scholastica earned a place in Grade 10. But unlike her classmates who were preparing with new uniforms and travel plans, she had nothing no school fees, no suitcase, and no one to escort her. Her family simply could not afford it.

Instead of giving up, Scholastica did something extraordinary. She walked alone to Materi Girls Secondary School, hoping someone would listen.

When she arrived, she calmly explained her situation to the teachers. She spoke about coming from a struggling family where even daily needs are hard to meet.

Despite that, she made it clear that education is her only hope of changing her life and lifting her family out of poverty.

Her honesty and courage moved many. Scholastica’s story has since sparked conversations online about the hidden struggles many bright Kenyan students face when transitioning to senior school.

While government efforts exist, cases like hers show that many children still fall through the cracks.

Now, Scholastica is appealing to well-wishers to help her stay in school and continue her education.

Her long walk was more than a journey to a school gate it was a powerful statement of hope, bravery, and refusal to surrender to poverty.
