A Kenyan man has sparked strong reactions online after a video showed him breaking his late father’s grave using a sledgehammer.

Many people were shocked at first, while others were curious to understand why someone would destroy a grave that looked neat and well-kept.

In the video, the man is seen smashing white tiles that covered his father’s grave, breaking them into small pieces. However, he later explained that his actions were not out of disrespect, but out of love and remembrance.

The man said his father died in December 2001 when he was still a young boy. He remembered his father as a good man who provided well for the family and ensured they lived a happy life.

According to him, his father passed away on December 23 and was buried two days later on Christmas Day, December 25.

After 24 years, the man felt it was time to make changes. He explained that the grave was built a long time ago and the design no longer reflected how he wanted to honour his father’s memory.

Before doing anything, he said he consulted other family members and received their approval. Some even joined him during the demolition.

Once the old white tiles were removed, the man rebuilt the grave using a modern design. He installed new dark, shiny tiles arranged in three neat steps.

At the top of the grave, he placed a cross engraved with his father’s name and dates of birth and death. He also decorated the area around the grave with small white stones, giving it a clean and beautiful look.

The man said his goal was to honour his father in a better way and show appreciation for everything he did for the family. He encouraged other people to remember their loved ones, especially during festive seasons, by caring for and improving their resting places.

“As we enjoy life, we should remember our Elders who made our success possible,” he said.
