Panic gripped Kahawa Garrison after a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was shot dead under unclear circumstances.
According to initial reports, the soldier was intercepted by guard personnel while attempting to leave the camp through a section of the perimeter fence bordering Githurai.
The sentries ordered him to stop, but he ignored repeated commands. Warning shots were fired into the air, yet the officer continued to defy instructions. In response, the guards opened fire, fatally wounding him.

Authorities allege the soldier was carrying stolen items at the time of the incident. Among the goods recovered at the scene were gas cylinders, a television set, and personal documents.
Military sources identified the deceased as a serving Signal Battalion soldier who was deployed in Garissa. His body was later transferred to a Nairobi mortuary as military police began investigations.
KDF officials have termed the incident unfortunate and confirmed that a full probe is underway to establish the exact circumstances that led to the shooting.
