Safaricom has announced a special free calls offer for its customers as the leading telecommunications company marks 25 years of operation in Kenya.
The offer, which will take effect from December 18, 2025, was communicated directly to subscribers via SMS and has since generated widespread excitement across social media platforms.
According to the message sent to customers, Safaricom users will receive 10 free minutes on their first call of the day during the promotional period.

“Tomorrow, your first call is on us! As we mark 25 years of transforming lives, enjoy 10 FREE minutes to connect, celebrate, and share the joy,” the message read.
While Safaricom is yet to publish a detailed breakdown of the full terms and conditions, the free calls initiative is part of the company’s broader customer appreciation campaign tied to its silver jubilee celebrations.
Safaricom Shangwe@25 Promotion Explained
The free calls offer coincides with Safaricom’s nationwide consumer promotion dubbed Shangwe@25, which is rewarding customers for their loyalty and continued use of Safaricom services.
The Shangwe@25 promotion officially runs from October 31, 2025, to January 19, 2026, and is open to all registered Safaricom customers, including existing, inactive, and new users who join during the promotion period. Eligible customers are automatically opted in.
Customers earn entry points by carrying out qualifying transactions such as:
- Sending money or paying bills via M-PESA
- Buying voice or data bundles using airtime or M-PESA
- Renewing Home Wi-Fi, PostPay, All-in-One, or Emerald bundles
- Redeeming every 100 Bonga Points
However, the promotion excludes corporate and SME customers, roaming users, out-of-bundle GSM usage, agent deposits and withdrawals, airtime purchases via M-PESA, Sambaza, Okoa Jahazi, and scratch card airtime.

Prizes Available in Shangwe@25 Campaign
Safaricom says over 5 million customers will win daily and weekly prizes throughout the campaign period.
Daily rewards include:
- M-PESA cash prizes
- Free voice minutes
- SMS and data bundles
Weekly draws will award KSh 10,000 cash to 43 winners per region, while the grand prize will see 25 customers each win KSh 1 million, plus an additional KSh 250,000 to support a community project of their choice.
Other rewards include:
- Instant M-PESA cash ranging from KSh 100 to KSh 10,000
- Airtime and data bundles
- 5G routers and mobile devices
- Festive season rewards under the Green Box experience
Small and micro businesses will also benefit, with 25 businesses winning Bajaj tricycles, while 15 medium and large enterprises will each receive KSh 500,000 to fund community projects.

Safaricom’s Strong Financial Performance
The announcement comes against the backdrop of strong financial results. Earlier this year, Safaricom reported a 52.1% increase in group net income, reaching KSh 42.8 billion for the six months ending September 30, 2025.
In Kenya alone, the company posted:
- 22.6% growth in net income to KSh 58.2 billion
- 9.3% rise in service revenue to KSh 194.0 billion
- 13.1% growth in EBIT to KSh 89.5 billion
The results were announced during the company’s half-year briefing attended by Safaricom Board Chairman Adil Arshed Khawaja and CEO Peter Ndegwa, underscoring the firm’s strong operational performance in both Kenya and Ethiopia.
