Veteran Kikuyu gospel singer Gachati wa Thuo is going through one of the hardest seasons of his life, and he is now turning to Kenyans for help.
His story came to light after he opened up to his friend and well-known philanthropist Karangu Muraya. On Monday, December 8, Karangu revealed that Gachati’s personal car had already been auctioned by the bank to recover a loan he had struggled to pay.
Gachati’s troubles began years ago when he made the decision to give his life to Christ and stop performing in clubs. Before then, his Mugithi performances brought in steady income.
But once he quit the club scene, his earnings dropped sharply, making it hard for him to keep up with loan payments.
Karangu explained that the situation has now grown even more serious. Gachati is facing a debt of KSh 3 million, and if it is not cleared soon, he risks losing his home and an acre of land valued at over KSh 20 million.
“He is holding on by faith, but the pressure is heavy. His home could be next,” Karangu said as he urged well-wishers to step in.
Gachati requested Karangu to share his story publicly, hoping that kind-hearted Kenyans would stand with him during this difficult moment. And they did not disappoint.
Within hours, support began pouring in after musician Waithaka Wa Jane suggested an impromptu fundraiser at a hotel in Nairobi.
The quick response gave Gachati a glimmer of hope that he may be able to save the property he has worked for over the years.
As contributions continue, many Kenyans say they are inspired by Gachati’s humility and courage to seek help. For now, he remains hopeful that the community will help him overcome this financial storm and rebuild his life.
