Grief has a way of slowing life down, making familiar places feel heavier and simple gestures carry deeper meaning.

That feeling was clear when Ida Odinga welcomed a large group of guests to Kang’o Ka Jaramogi and chose to give them a gentle, personal tour of her family’s mausoleum. It leaves one wondering how families find strength while still opening their doors to the world.

Raila Odinga’s family home in Bondo has continued to receive visitors from different parts of the country, all coming to pay their respects and offer comfort. Among the most recent were several prominent women leaders who travelled to stand with Ida during this difficult period.

After spending time speaking with her guests, Ida took the chance to guide them through the mausoleum where Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, the late patriarch of the family, rests.

The tour was pretty enjoyable with the visitors moving through the space with calm respect enjoying different artistic views of the space.

For many of them, it was their first time stepping inside, and Ida offered a glimpse into the history and memories preserved within those walls.

The gathering was more than a formal courtesy. It showed the kind of support system that often carries families through heavy seasons.

The leaders who visited did not simply arrive to be seen; they came to stand beside a woman who has long served the country in her own quiet way.

Each handshake, each brief conversation, added to a sense of shared humanity that can be easy to forget in public life.

Moments like this remind us that even in the homes of well-known families, grief remains a deeply personal journey.

Opening the mausoleum to guests was not just about showing a structure, but about allowing people to understand the legacy and the love that have shaped the Odinga family for generations.

In the middle of all the visits and conversations, one thing stood out: the power of presence. Sometimes, simply showing up is the greatest comfort anyone can offer.
