Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has spoken out following news that Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga was rushed to Dubai. According to Salasya, the trip is a precautionary measure for rest and a brief medical check-up after a period of intense political and personal pressures.
Oburu’s Dubai visit comes in the wake of his brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death, which placed emotional and leadership responsibilities on him. Salasya emphasized that such trips are necessary for leaders to regain physical and mental strength.
Salasya expressed concern over how leaders’ medical trips abroad are often sensationalized. He warned that routine health evaluations are sometimes misinterpreted, causing unnecessary public panic about the leaders’ wellbeing.

Despite these concerns, Salasya praised Oburu’s decision to take time off, describing it as essential for reflection and recovery. He highlighted the need for national figures to care for their health amidst demanding schedules.
According to Salasya, Oburu will use the three-day stay in Dubai to rest, process recent events, and plan for the future of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the party he now leads after Raila’s passing.
Salasya reassured the public that there is no immediate cause for alarm. He stated that leaders, like any citizen, deserve short breaks to maintain their health and continue serving effectively.
Oburu’s supporters have expressed relief that he is taking proactive steps to recover. Many hope that the Dubai trip will help him return rejuvenated and ready to handle the party’s ongoing political challenges.
The MP also reminded Kenyans to respect Oburu’s privacy during this period. Public messages of support have poured in, acknowledging the pressures of recent events and the need for rest.
In closing, Salasya urged unity and patience, emphasizing that Oburu’s health and well-being are crucial for ODM’s stability. He concluded that responsible rest and medical attention are vital for anyone in leadership, especially after national and personal hardships.
