International Friendly: Sipho Mbule Shines as Bafana Clinch 3-1 Win Against Zambia
Johannesburg – Sipho Mbule earned the man-of-the-match award for his sterling contribution in Bafana Bafana’s 3-1 victory over Zambia in an international friendly at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
The South Africans thrilled their fans on Saturday, 15 November 2025, with goals from Oswin Appollis, Mohau Nkota, and Sphephelo Sithole, assisted by Mbule.
Joseph Sabobo Banda pulled one back for Zambia when he scored in the 90th minute.
Orlando Pirates and Bafana midfielder Mbule said Coach Hugo Broos told the players before the match against Chipolopolo that there are “no friendlies” at this level, and everyone understood and applied themselves as best as they could.
After the game, the Bafana Coach highlighted the strong showing by local players, but noted areas for improvement ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The victory, driven by sharp attacking play, promises to see Bafana do better than the bronze medal they got at the previous AFCON.
Mbule, who received his man-of-the-match award from midfield legend and AFCON winner Doctor Khumalo, said: “We want to go all the way”.
Mbule walked away with a cheque of R10 000 for his man-of-the-match performance.
