Kaloleni KCSE Candidate Dies After Malaria Complications

A KCSE candidate from St. George’s Secondary School in Kaloleni has died. The student, identified as Juma Mohamed, was receiving treatment for malaria.

A Form Four candidate sitting for this year’s KCSE exams at St. George’s Secondary School in Kaloleni, Kilifi County, has passed away after suffering malaria-related complications.

The student, identified as Juma Mohamed, had been undergoing treatment at Mariakani Sub-County Hospital, where he was admitted when his condition quickly worsened.

Reports indicate that Juma, who hails from Mombasa, began feeling unwell and first sought medical care at Bombolulu Hospital in Kaloleni.
However, his health continued to deteriorate, leading to his referral to the sub-county hospital for further treatment.

Kaloleni Sub-County Police Commander Adan Ibrahim confirmed the death, adding that the family had taken the body for burial in line with religion and culture.

“The family collected the body for burial in Mombasa according to Islamic traditions,” Ibrahim stated.

The sad incident comes as thousands of candidates across Kenya continue to sit for their KCSE 2025 examinations, which began earlier in the week.

Education officials and school administrators in the region have yet to issue additional comments regarding support arrangements for affected students.
