President William Ruto has dismissed the current opposition as lacking a credible agenda. He described the late Raila Odinga as his only worthy political competitor.

President William Ruto has downplayed the current opposition, saying none of its leaders pose a serious challenge to his administration.

Speaking on Thursday, October 30, during a development tour in Malava, Kakamega County, Ruto said the only politician he considered a true rival was the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“Let me ask you, Malava people, when you look at me like this, are those people the only ones I’m competing with? My only worthy competitor was Raila Odinga. I will finish these ones in the morning,” Ruto said.

The President accused opposition figures of lacking a national vision and instead promoting tribalism and division.

“And not for no reason. It’s because they have no agenda, no plan. They are just fueling tribalism, hate, bringing about chaos and losses,” he stated.

Ruto urged Kenyans to concentrate on development priorities, including infrastructure, education, jobs, and healthcare — instead of engaging in early political debates ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Let’s plan about the roads, education, employment, health and the rest, then we meet in 2027,” he said.

Defending his administration’s inclusivity, Ruto said his decision to form a broad-based government was deliberate to promote unity and end tribal politics.

He noted his cooperation with former Azimio leaders such as Eugene Wamalwa and Wycliffe Oparanya as an example of leaders putting Kenya’s interests first.

“Baraza was in Azimio, Oparanya was in Azimio, but because they are leaders with a vision, we decided to put our differences aside and work together. That is why we created the broad-based government to do away with tribalism and unite the whole country,” he said.

During his Western Kenya tour, President Ruto launched the tarmacking of the 34-kilometre Turbo–Sikhendu Road at Pan Paper in Lugari Constituency.

The Sh3.6 billion project will enhance transport and connectivity across Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, and Trans-Nzoia Counties, improving access to markets and reducing transport costs for farmers and traders.

Ruto also inspected the construction of the Pan Paper Economic Stimulus Programme Market, aimed at boosting enterprise, creating jobs, and revitalising the region’s economy.
