Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet are shortlisted for the 2025 World Athlete of the Year. Chebet won double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m at the Tokyo World Championships.

Kenya’s middle and long-distance stars Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet have been nominated for the prestigious World Athlete of the Year award after delivering remarkable performances at the Tokyo World Championships.

Chebet earned her spot by claiming double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m, cementing her reputation as one of the finest distance runners of her generation.

Kipyegon, on the other hand, made history by winning her fourth world title in the 1500m and adding a silver medal in the 5000m, continuing her dominance on the global stage.

The Kenyan pair faces stiff competition from a strong lineup that includes American sprint queens Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who bagged three gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the 400m and 4x400m champion.

They are also joined by Dutch sensation Femke Bol, who ruled the 400m hurdles both at the World Championships and in the Diamond League.

In the men’s category, Emmanuel Wanyonyi headlines Kenya’s representation after capturing both the 800m world title and the Diamond League crown.

He will battle against American stars Noah Lyles (100m, 200m), Rai Benjamin (400m hurdles), and Cordell Tinch (110m hurdles), as well as France’s Jimmy Gressier, who took gold in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5000m.

Fans can take part in deciding this year’s winners by voting through World Athletics’ social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter)  before October 19.

Winners for field and out-of-stadium events will be announced later in the month, as the global athletics community celebrates a season filled with unforgettable moments.
