Health CS Aden Duale meets U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Susan M. Burns.

Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today held talks with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Kenya, H.E. Susan M. Burns, to advance health partnerships between the two nations. The discussions focused on the newly launched America First Global Health Strategy (AFGHS), which builds on the success of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

Since its launch, PEPFAR has saved more than 26 million lives and prevented 7.8 million HIV-positive births worldwide. The program has greatly eased the HIV/AIDS burden in Kenya and continues to be a pillar of international health efforts.

The meeting also addressed regional health challenges in the Horn of Africa. Both parties agreed on the need for stronger cross-border collaboration to fight diseases and support sustainable development in the region.

The U.S. pledged continued assistance to Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, aligning with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). This commitment underscores Washington’s long-standing role as a partner in Kenya’s health journey.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its dedication to reforms, innovation, and global partnerships that strengthen systems and improve citizens’ well-being.

Hon. Duale was joined in the meeting by Mr Tim Trenkle, Political Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.
