KWS will open all national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries for free on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Kenyans have been given a golden chance this weekend to visit the country’s natural treasures without paying a shilling. Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) announced that all parks, reserves, and sanctuaries under its management will open their gates for free on Saturday, September 27, as part of World Tourism Day celebrations.

This means Kenyans can visit iconic places like Nairobi National Park, Amboseli, Tsavo East and West, Mount Kenya, Hell’s Gate, Lake Nakuru, and marine parks such as Malindi, Watamu, and Kisite Mpunguti without paying entry fees.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the decision is aimed at helping Kenyans reconnect with their wildlife and environment while encouraging conservation.

“By opening the gates to these iconic spaces, we aim to foster a greater appreciation of Kenya’s rich biodiversity and inspire responsibility to protect it for generations to come,” she stated.

Miano encouraged families and individuals to take advantage of the opportunity to explore and learn from the country’s natural wonders.

In addition to the parks, the National Museums of Kenya announced that all its museums, heritage sites, and monuments across the country will also be free for citizens.

The offer will run on both Saturday, September 27, and Sunday, September 28. Facilities such as the Nairobi National Museum, Fort Jesus in Mombasa, and many other cultural sites will be open at no cost.

“This offer is exclusively available to Kenyan citizens. We welcome you to take this opportunity to explore, learn, and celebrate Kenya’s rich cultural and natural heritage,” the Museums said in a statement.

Both institutions have urged Kenyans to use the weekend to explore, reconnect, and celebrate the country’s beauty. The move also highlights the government’s wider push to grow domestic tourism and remind citizens that Kenya’s heritage is not just global pride but a treasure for its own people
