Felix Isaac Olwero, former Siaya County Assembly Clerk, was shot dead in Kombewa, Kisumu County.
Former Siaya County Assembly Clerk Felix Isaac Olwero, 50, was fatally shot near his business, White House Resort, in Kombewa, Kisumu County. Police said the shooting happened after officers responded to a midnight distress call reporting a break-in at the premises.
Officers reported encountering a group of men armed with pangas and crude weapons who refused to surrender, prompting police to open fire. Olwero, who had rushed to the scene, was mistakenly identified as one of the suspects and shot. His body was taken to Kombewa Sub-County Referral Hospital for post-mortem.
Resort management revealed that the property had been targeted at least five times in recent weeks. They urged security agencies to increase patrols and tighten safety in the area to prevent further incidents.
Olwero’s close friend, Fidel Omondi, mourned his death on social media, calling him a “pillar and motivator.” He wrote, “Around 1 a.m., we received the sad news that you had been shot. This has broken me because you were always my pillar and motivator. Go well, my friend.”
Olwero joined the Siaya County Assembly as Clerk in July 2014. He faced suspension in 2019 over allegations of misconduct and irregular withdrawal of funds. Although the Employment and Labour Relations Court reinstated him, the County Assembly Service Board could still pursue disciplinary action.
In 2024, Siaya MCAs voted to remove him from office, citing violations of the Constitution, misconduct, and mismanagement. Olwero challenged the decision, but in June 2025, Justice Nzioki wa Makau dismissed the case, ruling he failed to prove malice in his dismissal.
Olwero’s family has called for a thorough investigation into the shooting. Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
