3 Arrested for Robbing Mourners in Kisumu

Three suspects arrested after robbing mourners in Daraja Mbili, Kisumu

Three individuals have been arrested following a daring robbery at a funeral home in Daraja Mbili, Mayatta B area, Kisumu County. The attack targeted mourners gathered at the homestead of the late Susan Achieng’ Otieno.

Police confirmed that the suspects were apprehended after a distress call was made to officers on foot patrol from Kasagam Police Station.

“Following a distress call from one of the mourners, officers from Kasagam Police Station on a foot patrol swiftly responded to the scene. With the assistance of the community, three suspects were arrested, while their accomplices fled,” read a police statement issued on Friday, July 25.

A blue TVS motorcycle with registration number KMFK 840L, believed to have been used in the crime, was recovered at the scene.

“Police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the remaining suspects,” added the statement.

The National Police Service has commended residents for their cooperation and called on the public to share any information that may assist in capturing the remaining suspects.

Fuel Attendant Shot Dead in Meru
Meanwhile, in Kitheo, Tigania area of Meru County, police are investigating a brutal shooting that claimed the life of 26-year-old fuel attendant Josephat Muriithi.

The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, July 23, when three men on a motorcycle posed as customers at a local fuel station. After refuelling, one of the suspects tried to snatch the day’s earnings from Muriithi, but he resisted.

“He resisted, prompting an accomplice to draw a pistol and shoot him in the chest and armpit,” police reported.

Despite attempting to flee, Muriithi collapsed a few meters away and died on the spot. The assailants escaped on the same motorcycle, leaving behind the Ksh8,150 they had intended to steal. The cash was recovered from Muriithi’s pockets and handed to his colleague.

Detectives recovered a spent cartridge from the scene and have launched a forensic ballistic investigation to help identify the shooters.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as efforts to track down the gang continue.
