Trump Undergoes Medical Examination Due to Leg Swelling and Hand Bruising

President Trump recently underwent medical evaluations for “mild swelling” in his legs and bruising on his hand, which resulted in the identification of a venous condition commonly seen in individuals over 70 years old, according to the White House’s announcement on Thursday.

During a press briefing, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared information from Trump’s physician regarding the examination. The president received ultrasounds and a “comprehensive exam” that included a diagnostic vascular study.

The examination revealed that Trump, who is 79 years old, has chronic venous insufficiency. This condition occurs when leg veins have difficulty returning blood to the heart, leading to blood accumulation, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic.

Leavitt stated that there were no signs of deep vein thrombosis—a type of blood clot—or arterial disease involving blockages.

Recent images also showed bruising on one of Trump’s hands. His physician indicated that these marks were “consistent with minor soft tissue damage from frequent handshaking” and regular aspirin consumption.

Leavitt informed reporters that Trump is not feeling any discomfort.

“As for the treatments, I can defer to the president’s physician,” she remarked.

Subsequently, the White House released a memo from Dr. Sean Barbabella, detailing Trump’s examination and confirming Leavitt’s previous statements at the briefing.

Barbabella noted that an echocardiogram conducted by the president’s medical team displayed “normal cardiac structure and function.”

The doctor reported no indications of heart failure, renal issues, or systemic illnesses.

The memo concluded with a statement affirming that Trump “remains in excellent health.”

In April, Trump had his annual physical assessment during which his physician documented that the president was in “excellent health.”

“President Trump demonstrates excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully capable of carrying out the responsibilities of Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” Barbabella noted at that time, adding that Trump’s heart function was deemed “normal.”

When he leaves office, Trump will be 82 years old.
