Rising Kenyan talent Aldrine Kibet signs with Spanish club Celta Vigo.

Kenya’s fast-rising football star Aldrine Kibet has inked a four-year contract with Spanish La Liga club Celta Vigo, officially beginning his European journey.

The 18-year-old playmaker, famed for his stellar performance with St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale during the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games, will join Celta Fortuna, the club’s youth and reserve team, on a deal that runs until 2029.

Celta Vigo announced the signing on Monday, commending the midfielder’s “speed, ball skills, and scoring instinct”. The club emphasised that Kibet is a long-term investment owing to his immense potential, which fits into Coach Fredi Álvarez’s project at the reserve level.

Kibet’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. After dazzling at the national school games and excelling in the CECAFA U18 and AFCON U20 qualifiers, he moved to Nastic Sports Academy in Spain in 2023. A year later, he’s now a La Liga player.

The deal was finalised after Kibet passed medicals earlier this week, completing a free transfer from Nastic Sports Academy. His development over the past year saw him become Sports Personality of the Month and a driving force behind Kenya’s qualification for the 2025 U20 AFCON, where he scored five goals.

If Kibet features in La Liga for the first team, he will follow in the footsteps of McDonald Mariga and Michael Olunga, becoming only the third Kenyan to play in Spain’s top flight.
