Arsenal seal £60 million deal for Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
Arsenal’s midfield just got a major upgrade. Martin Zubimendi, the highly-rated Spanish international, has officially joined the Gunners from Real Sociedad in a deal worth close to £60 million.
The 26-year-old leaves his boyhood club after over 230 appearances, signing a five-year deal at the Emirates as Mikel Arteta sharpens his squad for the new campaign.
Zubimendi, who played a key role for Spain at Euro 2024, is seen as a natural fit for Arsenal’s control-based system.
“This is a big step for me,” the midfielder said. “I chose Arsenal because of how they play. I felt the ambition the moment I arrived.”
Head coach Mikel Arteta, also a Basque native and former Sociedad player, was glowing in praise:

The move reunites two men with shared roots, now chasing silverware together in England.
Zubimendi joins goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who arrived from Chelsea for £5 million, as part of Arsenal’s early transfer activity.
But the window remains wide open. Talks are ongoing for Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, in a deal that could rise to £70 million.
In a quiet but clever move, Arsenal have also agreed to bring in Christian Norgaard from Brentford. The £10 million signing is expected to add steel and depth in midfieldvital for a squad competing on multiple fronts.
