Rapper Dyana Cods stirred outrage online after declaring support for President Ruto in an Instagram Story.

Dyana Cods, a rising name in Kenya’s music scene, found herself trending for all the wrong reasons on June 30. In an Instagram Story, she wrote “I love my president,” followed by remarks suggesting that flawed leadership is better than no leadership at all. That post didn’t sit well with many, especially Gen Z fans who’ve been at the forefront of recent protests.

The post gained even more attention when actress and activist Wanjiku Stephens reposted it and asked followers to boycott Dyana Cods’ music. That opened the floodgates for criticism, with many questioning the rapper’s timing and judgment.

According to sources, Dyana slid into Stephens’ DMs demanding she delete the reposts, even threatening legal action. But Stephens didn’t back down, and the screenshots stayed online, further fueling the backlash.

With the heat turning up, Dyana returned to Instagram with a very different tone. She said the post was never serious and had been part of a dare. “It was meant as sarcasm. I was dared to post for 24 hours,” she explained. She ended her post with a clear apology: “Sorry to the people I offended.”

Her apology divided opinion. Some fans appreciated that she admitted fault, while others weren’t convinced and accused her of backtracking to save face. Either way, it’s a reminder that even a single Instagram Story can have real consequences, especially when politics and a politically charged audience are involved.
