Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has raised political temperatures with a dramatic claim that President William Ruto may not relinquish power even after a fair electoral defeat.
His remarks, made during a passionate engagement with opposition supporters, have reignited concerns about Kenya’s electoral integrity and the state of democracy ahead of the next general election.
“We know that once we defeat President Ruto, without rigging, he will still have plans to keep his seat,” Kalonzo stated, drawing loud reactions from the crowd.

His warning comes as the opposition ramps up its political messaging, pushing for vigilance not just on election day, but long after the ballots are cast.
The former Vice President, known for his measured political tone, took an unusually hardline stance, suggesting that Kenya’s democratic institutions remain vulnerable to manipulation.
He called on opposition forces and citizens to prepare not only to vote but to defend their victory against any attempts to subvert the people’s will.
“Democracy does not end at the polling station,” Kalonzo warned. “We must be ready to protect it at all costs, before, during, and after elections.”

His comments have triggered widespread discussion, with some viewing them as a strategic rallying call to energize the opposition base, while others see them as a sign of deepening mistrust between the political class and state institutions.
Kalonzo’s remarks come amid growing political alignment among opposition leaders, who are working toward a unified front to challenge Ruto’s administration in the next election cycle.
However, the allegations of potential power retention schemes add a layer of uncertainty to the country’s political future.
While State House has not yet issued a formal response, political analysts say Kalonzo’s statement could shape the narrative around electoral reforms and democratic accountability in the coming months.
The battle for 2027, it seems, has already begun and the stakes are higher than ever.
