Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi has urged opposition leaders to abandon the one term gimmicks and focus on serious politics if they want to defeat President Ruto in the coming elections.

He has advised them to stop what he termed as “old-generation politics” and instead build unity based on solutions to the real problems facing ordinary Kenyans.

Wanjigi, who has declared his intention to run for president in 2027, said removing President William Ruto from power should not be the only reason for uniting the opposition. He warned that any alliance that ignores economic grievances behind recent protests would not last.

Speaking to Taifa Leo, Wanjigi said Kenyans want answers on unemployment, heavy taxation, and the high cost of living, but politicians are stuck in power struggles instead of listening to citizens.

He predicted that the 2027 presidential race will be shaped by economic issues rather than ethnicity or regional politics.

Wanjigi dismissed efforts by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to form an opposition coalition, calling them region-based and unviable.

He said the next election should deliver a “third liberation” driven by ideas, not slogans, and described the 2024 Finance Bill protests as a patriotic youth-led referendum against poor governance.

On ODM working with Ruto, Wanjigi said Safina cannot support it, but talks are possible if ODM breaks away.
