Video: Paul Pogba signs AS Monaco contract: French footballer Paul Pogba was visibly emotional as he inked a two-year deal with Ligue 1 club AS Monaco on Saturday, marking his comeback to professional football following a doping ban.
The 32-year-old midfielder had been without a team since his contract with Juventus was terminated last year. Initially handed a four-year suspension in August 2023 for testing positive for a prohibited substance, this ban was subsequently reduced to 18 months in October 2024.
Now that his suspension has ended, Pogba is poised to relaunch his football career in France.
In a heartfelt video shared online, Pogba appeared to fight back tears while seated at the table where he signed his new contract. After completing the paperwork, the World Cup champion bowed his head, clearly overwhelmed, as he received comfort from a representative and Monaco’s sporting director, Thiago Scuro.
Pogba’s last competitive appearance was in September 2023. His transfer to Monaco is perceived as an opportunity for renewal and a chance to restore his previously illustrious career.
The announcement of his signing has elicited mixed responses on social media, with fans offering both support and caution regarding his past issues.
