Fresh serious claims have emerged within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Secretary General Edwin Sifuna launched a serious attack on Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, accusing him of mismanaging campaign funds during Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid.
Through a fiery address targeting Junet the Nairobi senator dismissed claims by some ODM leaders that former president Uhuru Kenyatta did not support Raila’s campaign.
Instead, Sifuna insisted that Uhuru was a major financier of the Azimio la Umoja campaign, alleging that a portion of the funds was misappropriated before reaching the party and its grassroots agents.
Directing his criticism at Junet Mohamed, Sifuna accused the MP of diverting the money for personal gain rather than using it to strengthen Raila’s campaign machinery.
“Uhuru Kenyatta helped us a lot. Most of the money we used during campaigns came from him,” Sifuna said.
“You took that money, failed to remit it fully to the party and ate some of it instead of paying agents.”
His use of the phrase “Ulikula pesa ya Uhuru” (You ate Uhuru’s money) quickly went viral, underscoring the seriousness of the accusation and the depth of the internal rift.
Sifuna further rejected allegations that he is being intimidated or could be pushed out of ODM because of his outspoken stance.
He maintained that Raila Odinga never endorsed President William Ruto and reiterated his own opposition to the Kenya Kwanza administration, declaring that “Kasongo must go home in 2027.”
The ODM SG also stressed that no one has the authority to dictate his political friendships or alliances.
