Trouble is deepening for a Climax bus driver after CCTV footage emerged contradicting his earlier claims about the fatal crash that killed former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.
Investigators say the new evidence has significantly altered the direction of the probe.
The driver had initially claimed that he attempted to avoid the collision and escape the scene after the impact.
However, CCTV footage reviewed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations shows the bus ramming into Jirongo’s car with immense force, casting doubt on that version of events.
According to investigators, the footage indicates that the impact pushed Jirongo’s vehicle approximately 25 metres along the road.
Officials say this level of force raises serious concerns about speed, braking, and driver awareness at the time of the crash.
Further CCTV analysis revealed that moments before the accident, Jirongo had entered a petrol station near Naivasha but left without refuelling.
This detail has helped investigators reconstruct his final movements and establish a clearer timeline before the fatal collision.
In light of the contradictory evidence, the Climax bus driver has been ordered to report to the Naivasha Traffic Base for further questioning. Authorities confirmed that he is being investigated for possible death by dangerous driving.
Investigators say the driver’s earlier statement will now be re-examined alongside CCTV footage, vehicle inspection reports, and witness accounts.
As pressure mounts for accountability, the DCI has assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and guided strictly by evidence.
