Tahidi High is a long-running Kenyan comedy-drama series that aired on Citizen TV from 2006 to 2020, focusing on the humorous and chaotic lives of students and teachers at a fictional high school.

Produced by Catherine Wamuyu, the show became a cultural staple, launching the careers of many actors while blending satire on education, youth, and society.

It featured a rotating cast of over 50 actors across its 14 seasons, with many playing iconic student and teacher roles.

Angela Wambui Waruinge, popularly known by her stage name Angel Waruinge, was born and raised in Kenya.

From a young age, she discovered her passion for acting during her high school days, where she fell in love with theatre and performance arts. This early interest laid the foundation for her career in the entertainment industry.

She honed her skills through local productions and eventually broke into television, becoming one of Kenya’s most recognizable faces.

Rise to Fame as Miss Morgan

Waruinge’s breakthrough came with her iconic role as Miss Morgan, the no-nonsense deputy principal in the long-running Kenyan TV series Tahidi High, which aired on Citizen TV.

Portrayed as a strict, authoritative figure who commanded respect and instilled discipline among students, Miss Morgan was a character that resonated deeply with audiences.

Waruinge played the role with exceptional depth, blending sternness with subtle warmth, making the character both feared and admired. The show ran for over a decade, turning her into a household name and earning her corporate endorsement deals and widespread acclaim.

What happened to Miss Morgan?

Waruinge courageously revealed how she battled depression and alcoholism during her worst days. She admitted to drinking when things did not go as planned in a YouTube interview with Hiram Maina.

According to the actor, she experienced a mental and identity crisis. Depression set in at this point, and she turned to alcohol for comfort. The celebrated actor engaged Kenyans.co.ke, and detailed how tearing down her famous Tahidi High character set her on a new path.

Her new-found fervor for life (including her brand new show discussed later on), only came about after she consciously decided to bury her ‘Miss Morgan’ tag and all the vices it came with.

“It has to go down as the single most important decision I’ve ever made. Saying goodbye to Miss Morgan opened me up to a world of new opportunities,” she explained.

Waruinge is also known for appearing in a low-budget HIV/Aids awareness film with “Tahidi High” co-creator Naomi Kamau in 2007. Recently, she has been preparing to launch her own show on her YouTube channel.
