Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a has found herself at the center of a social media storm following the circulation of a video that many Kenyans have termed an “embarrassing” attempt to fake a high-flying lifestyle.

The clip, which went viral on Monday, shows the lawmaker walking toward a parked helicopter on an open field. In what appears to be a choreographed move, she pauses beside the aircraft and turns around as if she had just stepped out of it, before walking toward a camera crew with a broad smile and a wave.

Netizens Spot ‘Editing Fail

While the video was intended to give the impression of a grand arrival by air, sharp-eyed Kenyans were quick to point out inconsistencies. Viewers noted that the MP did not actually emerge from cabin; instead, she approached the helicopter from outside and simply posed next to it.

The blunder is being attributed to a lapse by her communications team, who reportedly posted raw footage without necessary edits to make the transition look seamless.

A Disconnect from Reality?

The reaction on platforms like X, TikTok, and Facebook has been swift and largely critical. Many users argued that staged moment highlights a growing disconnect between elected leaders and the “hustlers” they represent, particularly at a time when the country is grappling with a high cost of living.

“Leaders should be focused on service delivery, not spending time creating fake content to look wealthy,” one user commented on X. Others turned the incident into a source of entertainment, creating memes and parodies of the “chopper arrival.”

Authenticity in the Digital Age

While a few supporters defended the MP, calling it a harmless attempt at social media content creation, majority of conversation has centered on need for authenticity.

Critics pointed out that such “clout-chasing” moves often backfire when they appear insincere or poorly executed.

The MP has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the video or subsequent backlash. However, the incident serves as a cautionary tale for public figures on risks of prioritizing optics over genuine engagement.
