Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard says he has no desire for a statue outside Anfield.
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has made it clear he doesn’t want a statue outside Anfield, saying the connection he shares with the club is far greater than any physical tribute.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Gerrard said he feels deeply appreciated by Liverpool for everything the club has done during and after his playing career.
“There’s enough respect… and I think the club have gone above and beyond for me,” Gerrard said.
“If you knew what that club had done for me, not just during my career but after I stopped playing, it would blow your mind.”
Gerrard is widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players.
He made 710 appearances, scored 186 goals, and lifted nine major trophies, including the 2005 UEFA Champions League, where he led one of football’s most dramatic comebacks against AC Milan in Istanbul.
While Liverpool has immortalised Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley with statues outside Anfield, no player, not even Gerrard or Kenny Dalglish, has been similarly honoured.
The former Reds captain said the continued relationship he enjoys with Liverpool means more than any public recognition.
“The phone calls, the invitations, the way they’ve looked after my family, it’s been incredible,” he said.
“I don’t need a statue to feel the love of Liverpool. My respect for the club has only grown stronger since I retired.”
Now managing in the Saudi Pro League, Gerrard remains a deeply respected figure among Liverpool fans.
His loyalty, leadership, and iconic moments from the Istanbul miracle to his long-range goals continue to define an era of Anfield folklore.
