Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko lodges a formal complaint with CAF.
Mike Sonko has officially written to CAF protesting what he terms as biased officiating during Kenya’s quarter-final clash with Madagascar in the 2025 CHAN tournament on August 22.
According to Sonko, Kenya was denied two clear goals without a VAR check or proper consultation, actions he says broke CAF’s own statutes.
“The officiating was questionable and against fairness, sportsmanship, loyalty, and integrity,” Sonko wrote to CAF.
Sonko accused referees, assistant referees, the match commissioner, referee inspector, and even security officers of colluding to block Kenya from reaching the semi-finals.
The Harambee Stars’ exit has sparked outrage online, with many fans supporting Sonko’s stance and demanding accountability from CAF.
CAF has not issued any response to the complaint, but pressure is mounting for investigations into refereeing standards in African football.
