A family in Nyamagenga, Kuria, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of their daughter, Lucy Chacha Nyaroberi, a bright young student whose life was cut short just days after securing admission to the prestigious Asumbi Girls High School.
Lucy, a former pupil at Nyamagenga Junior School, had recently sat for the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KSJEA), where she performed exceptionally well.
Her success brought joy and pride to her family and community, especially after she was placed at Asumbi Girls, one of the most sought-after national schools in Kenya.
The admission letter, which symbolized hope and a promising future, remained in the hands of her parents until her untimely death.
According to her family, Lucy’s troubles began following a freak domestic accident.
While collecting firewood for household use, she accidentally chopped her nail. What initially appeared to be a minor injury later developed complications that severely affected her health.
Despite efforts to manage the situation, her condition worsened, and she sadly passed away on January 2, 2026.
Speaking to the media, her brother, Kevin Chacha, described Lucy as a disciplined, hardworking, and intelligent student who consistently excelled in her studies.
He noted that the family is still struggling to come to terms with how quickly their joy turned into deep sorrow.
“All was well. We were celebrating her success and preparing for her to join Asumbi Girls. Then this small accident happened, and everything changed,” he said.
Lucy’s death has sparked an outpouring of sympathy from Kenyans online, many expressing shock that such a simple incident could lead to such a tragic outcome.
