Barcelona’s night started to unravel when Ronald Araujo recklessly grappled with Isaac Romero in the box, gifting Sevilla a penalty. Alexis Sanchez converted with calm precision before Romero turned scorer, slotting in Ruben Vargas’ delivery on 36 minutes.
Marcus Rashford kept Barca’s hopes alive with a thunderous finish in stoppage time, latching onto a superb through ball from Pedri. The goal gave the visitors belief heading into the second half.
Barcelona pushed after the restart and earned a penalty when Alejandro Balde was fouled by Adnan Januzaj. But Robert Lewandowski dragged his effort wide, squandering the chance to equalise.
