Samsung Introduces a New Foldable Design

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first smartphone with a triple-folding design.
The company said the device targets tech lovers who want something unique, not ordinary phone users.
It becomes the latest entry in Samsung’s growing foldable lineup.

The TriFold will go on sale on December 12 for $2,443 (KSh316,270), which is more than twice the price of the new iPhone 17.

Device Opens Into a 10-Inch Display

Samsung said the phone unfolds into a 10-inch screen that supports better multitasking and content creation.
It is ultra-thin, weighs 309 grams, and measures less than 0.2 inches at its thinnest point.
The TriFold will come in only one colour – black.

Although the design is impressive, Samsung is not the first company to make a triple-fold phone.
Huawei launched a similar device last year at a high price as manufacturers explore new phone shapes in a slowing global market.

The Galaxy Z TriFold comes with built-in generative AI tools.
Samsung said the AI can assist users in real time through screen sharing or camera functions.
These features are part of Samsung’s push to add next-generation software to its premium phones.

A Niche Product, Samsung Admits

Samsung said the phone is a limited “special edition”.
Alex Lim, the company’s executive vice president, explained that the TriFold is not designed for mass-market success but for users who want a rare and advanced device.

The launch comes at a sensitive time for Samsung.
Industry forecasts show Apple may overtake Samsung as the world’s top smartphone brand for the first time in 14 years—possibly in 2025.

Research firm Counterpoint predicts Apple will reach a global market share of 19.4 per cent next year, slightly ahead of Samsung at 18.7 per cent.

Apple is also expected to release its first foldable iPhone in 2025, setting up a fresh battle in the high-end smartphone market.
