Portugal beat Hungary 3–2 in Budapest.
The Puskás Aréna came alive when Barnabás Varga put Hungary ahead in the 21st minute, finishing smartly to stun the visitors. The hosts pressed high and looked dangerous, forcing Portugal onto the back foot early on.
Bernardo Silva dragged his team level before halftime with a superb strike from the edge of the box. The equaliser settled Roberto Martínez’s side, who came out sharper in the second half.
Just after the break, Cristiano Ronaldo calmly converted a penalty to give Portugal the lead. The goal was more than just a momentary advantage—it also drew him level with the record of 39 goals in World Cup qualifying matches. At 40 years old, Ronaldo’s influence remains undiminished.
Hungary refused to fold. Varga struck again in the 84th minute, sparking hopes of a point for the home side. But only two minutes later, João Cancelo unleashed a thunderous long-range effort to restore Portugal’s lead dramatically.
The final whistle confirmed Portugal’s second win in two matches, putting them at the top of Group F with six points. Hungary, meanwhile, were left to rue missed opportunities in a group that promises to be fiercely contested.
