Gachagua began a two-month tour in the US, his first trip abroad since leaving office in 2024.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua touched down in the United States on Thursday night, beginning a major two-month tour targeting the Kenyan diaspora. He arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport alongside his wife, Pastor Dorcas, where hundreds of supporters cheered and sang in celebration.
Videos from the scene showed Kenyan flags waving as chants of “Riggy G!” filled the terminal.
In a post on X, Gachagua expressed gratitude:
“The love and support I received is unmatched. I am truly excited to engage our people abroad and discuss matters affecting our great nation.”
His trip includes planned stops in key cities such as Dallas, Boston, California, and Baltimore, where he will hold town halls and open forums with Kenyans living abroad.
Though he hasn’t officially declared his 2027 presidential ambitions, Gachagua has strongly hinted at challenging President William Ruto. His U.S. tour is widely seen as a strategy to gain early support from diaspora communities and build a strong global network.
Sources close to him say he will also meet American investors and influential policy voices who are “interested in supporting alternative leadership” in Kenya.
Before departing Nairobi, Gachagua was escorted by key allies like Senator John Methu, Woman Rep Jane Njeri Maina, and former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, a clear sign that parts of Mt. Kenya and Western Kenya still back his political direction.
