PS Raymond Omollo on Saturday showcased the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of the Rironi–Kamandura Interchange.
The major infrastructure project aimed at unlocking one of Kenya’s busiest transport corridors.
The project, being implemented by Kenya National Highways Authority, is expected to transform travel between Nairobi and the Rift Valley while boosting connectivity to Western Kenya, the Nyanza region.
In his post, PS Omollo described the project as strategic and interlinked, designed to address chronic traffic congestion and improve road safety along the corridor.
“This project targets the decongestion of the main gateway between Nairobi and the Rift Valley, with far-reaching benefits for commuters, freight transport, and regional trade,” he noted.
The scope of works includes the complete reconstruction of the Rironi Interchange, with new slip roads, directional loops, and upgraded approach roads linking Waiyaki Way (A8), Limuru Road, and the Mai Mahiu Road (A8 South).
These upgrades are expected to significantly reduce traffic snarls that have long plagued the junction, particularly during peak hours and festive periods.
In addition to easing congestion, the project aims to enhance road safety by addressing conflicting traffic movements and improving road geometry.
Reduced travel times, smoother freight and passenger movement, and increased reliability are among the anticipated benefits.
PS Omollo emphasized that the interchange is not only a solution to traffic challenges but also a catalyst for economic growth.
Improved connectivity will facilitate trade, support businesses, and make daily commuting more efficient for thousands of road users.
