Peruvian woman faces death penalty for alleged drug smuggling to Bali
Officers found 1.4kg of cocaine inside a sex toy inserted into her vagina. They also accused her of transporting dozens of ecstasy pills.
A Peruvian woman was arrested on the Indonesian tourist island of Bali for allegedly attempting to traffic 1.4 kg of cocaine, some of which was hidden in a sex toy inside her vagina, police announced Tuesday.
The 42-year-old woman, identified only by the initials NS by authorities, arrived at Bali International Airport on August 12 from Qatar.
“Customs officers became suspicious of his behavior and, after consulting with the police, carried out additional checks,” said Radiant, head of the Bali police’s narcotics unit, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, at a press conference.
Officers found 1.4kg of cocaine, partly concealed in a sex toy inserted into her vagina. They also accused her of transporting dozens of ecstasy pills.
The Peruvian woman confessed to police that she had been hired to transport the drugs to Indonesia by a man she met in April on the dark web, in exchange for $20,000.
Indonesia has some of the world’s toughest drug trafficking laws, with the death penalty for traffickers.
More than 90 foreigners are currently detained in the country, sentenced to death for drug trafficking, according to the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services.
In July, a Bali court sentenced an Argentine woman to seven years in prison for attempting to smuggle 244 grams of cocaine into the island in a condom, hidden in her vagina.
The last executions of those sentenced to death for drug trafficking date back to 2016, when an Indonesian and three Nigerians were executed.
