Patrick Dorgu is celebrated after dream goal: 'Ballon Dorgu'

There are English praises for Patrick Dorgu after the dream goal in the 3-2 win over Arsenal. Even though the Dane looked bad when Arsenal scored first.

Patrick Dorgu seems to be quite happy with Manchester United’s coaching change.

The Danish national team player has certainly had a fantastic start under interim head coach Michael Carrick, who took over for Portuguese Ruben Amorim a few weeks ago.

On Sunday, Dorgu scored a true dream goal when Manchester United surprisingly beat Arsenal 3-2 away from home, and the English media applauded the effort.

The Manchester Evening News gives Dorgu an 8/10 rating for his effort, although a poor defensive performance was a bit disappointing.

– Weak defensive header in the build-up to the first goal (Arsenal’s 1-0 score, ed.), but hold on, he made up for it. A fantastic goal put United ahead and continued his own momentum, writes the Manchester Evening News, which only gives defender Harry Maguire a higher grade.

Sky Sports also gave the Dane an 8/10, while BBC readers were a bit more generous, giving Dorgu an average of 8.31. The readers surprisingly named match winner Matheus Cunha as the player of the match, even though he only played a good 20 minutes.

Nobody would have thought that
The Athletic has dedicated an entire section to Dorgu. The media is simply amazed that Patrick Dorgu has exploited Manchester United’s coaching change to his own advantage.

“Few would have expected Dorgu to be a key figure when Carrick took the lead against City last weekend. After just two games under Carrick, he now has more Premier League goals than in his first 32 games combined,” writes the Athletic, adding that most had expected the Danish wingback to have been sacrificed because Michael Carrick plays a different system to his Portuguese predecessor.

Instead, the new coach has pushed Dorgu forward as a left winger, and it must be said to have paid off.

Ballon Dorgu
The tabloid newspaper The Sun boasts 8/10 and the headline ‘Ballon Dorgu’ – of course with an ironic reference to the award as the world’s best football player, the Ballon d’Or, but The Sun was concerned about the Dane’s defensive struggles along the way.

– Looked uncertain every time he was up against Saka, and his nervous header was intercepted by the winger, whose cross led to Martinez’s own goal, it says, before the criticism is replaced by praise.

With the victory, Manchester United are fourth in the Premier League. Eight points behind Aston Villa in third place, but a full 12 behind Arsenal, who still lead the league despite the defeat.
