Black Toyota Prado crashes near Kapigazi Bridge, killing a boda boda rider and his passenger. Locals suspect the car was part of Embu Woman Rep Njoki Njeru’s convoy. Enraged residents torch the vehicle in protest, demanding justice. State House distances itself, denying the Prado is linked to the presidential escort. Chaos erupts just hours after President Ruto attended a diocesan event in the area. Deadly Crash Sparks Public Outrage Tension boiled over in Embu County on Sunday evening after a black Toyota Prado believed to be linked to a government convoy was involved in a horrific crash near Kapigazi Bridge. The collision claimed the lives of a boda boda rider and his passenger, both of whom later died in hospital after being rushed for emergency treatment. Convoy Claims Stir Confusion Eyewitnesses say the Prado appeared to lose control on impact, plunging into a ditch at the roadside. While no official occupant of the SUV was harmed, the tragedy quickly escalated as word spread that the car was allegedly part of Embu Woman Representative Njoki Njeru’s convoy. Residents who gathered at the scene became increasingly angry, blaming reckless driving and lack of accountability from the political class. Vehicle Burned as Tensions Explode What began as a tragic road accident turned into a public spectacle of rage, with locals eventually setting the Prado on fire in broad daylight. The crowd demanded action and justice for the two victims, accusing leaders of operating above the law while ordinary citizens bear the consequences. Was It Ruto’s Escort? State House Responds The situation grew murkier after some residents and early reports claimed the Prado was part of President William Ruto’s motorcade, as he had been attending the 35th Diocesan Anniversary at St. Mark’s Kigari College in the same county that day. However, State House quickly issued a denial, clarifying that the vehicle had no connection to the presidential escort. “The vehicle in question is not affiliated with any presidential security unit,” an official from the Office of the President stated. Calls for Transparency and Accountability As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on local and national authorities to clarify the vehicle’s ownership, provide answers to the grieving families, and restore trust among the public. Locals have vowed not to relent until someone is held responsible for the deaths — turning this from a simple road crash into a flashpoint for deeper frustrations with leadership and justice in the country.
