Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou had nothing but praise for the players following their impressive 3-0 win over rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers moved top of the Betway Premiership table thanks to goals from Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa.
The Buccaneers coach reveals the players followed his tactics to the tie, and he couldn’t be any prouder of their display.
“I think my boys—I’m very proud of my boys today. We started the game exactly how we wanted; we wanted to put the high pressure, to score early.
What helped us to bring this game easier?” Ouaddou told SuperSport after the game.
“It was a difficult two-three weeks after the two losses, and I think they gave us a fantastic answer in this derby, and I’m very proud of them, and we have to keep going like that.
“It was the target. We prepared for this derby very well. The guys wanted to show a great image, great qualities of Orlando Pirates in front of our fans; we wanted to make them happy. We wanted to keep the high levels of football we have shown.
“In the second half, we just made some slight changes, tactical changes, because we had this problem in the half-spaces of the opponents, and we have the left-winger who tried to overload on the side, and the boys really answered well.
“And what great characters and what great personalities of the boys have, and I’m a happy coach tonight.”
Ouaddou—Winning The Derby Tastes Spicy
In what was his first taste of the derby in South Africa, he was quizzed about whether it felt different to win a rivalry as a player, than as a coach, in reference to Benni McCarthy stating winning the winning a trophy as a coach felt better than winning the UEFA Champions League as a player.
“I think this is a very interesting question to play the derby as a player, or as a coach, for me it’s the same taste because of the rivalry, the taste is the same, it’s spicy,” Ouaddou said about his debut victory.
