ODM Power Struggle Deepens as Sifuna & Junet Clash Over Party’s 2027 Strategy, Junet Exposed for Making Raila Lose

The simmering power struggle within the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has taken a new turn following fresh remarks by the party’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, during a recent visit to Murang’a County.

For weeks, Sifuna has been locked in a public war of words with the National Assembly Minority Leader, Junet Mohamed, over the future direction of the party as the country slowly gears up for the 2027 General Election.

At the centre of the disagreement is ODM’s relationship with the Kenya Kwanza government. Junet Mohamed has openly supported the idea of ODM working with President William Ruto’s administration, arguing that political engagement and cooperation would benefit both the party and the country.

According to Junet, engaging the government offers ODM an opportunity to influence key national decisions from within rather than remaining in constant opposition.

However, Sifuna has taken a firm stand against any rushed political alignment. While addressing residents in Murang’a County, the Nairobi Senator insisted that ODM cannot make such a critical decision behind closed doors. He maintained that the party belongs to its supporters and grassroots members, not a few individuals at the top.

Sifuna emphasized that any decision touching on the 2027 elections must be arrived at through broad consultations involving party members across the country. He warned that sidelining the people could weaken ODM’s democratic credentials and erode public trust.

The contrasting positions have exposed growing divisions within ODM’s leadership, raising questions about unity within the party as political temperatures begin to rise. Political observers note that the disagreement reflects a wider debate within opposition parties on whether to cooperate with the government or remain firmly critical ahead of the next election.

Despite the tensions, ODM leader Raila Odinga has remained largely silent on the matter, leaving party members and supporters speculating on the path the party will ultimately take.

As 2027 draws closer, the standoff between Sifuna and Junet is expected to intensify, potentially shaping ODM’s strategy, alliances, and internal cohesion in the months ahead.
