ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga has said the party has decided to only negotiate with President William Ruto and his UDA party ahead of next year’s polls.

The Siaya Senator has ruled out chances of the party returning to the opposition or forming an alliance with DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua.

He has dismissed Gachagua as a tribal and selfish person who has repeatedly made his dislike for some parts of the country known.

Oburu has referred to Gachagua’s ‘shareholder’ remarks, terming them enough proof that he is not the person ODM would want to associate with.

“Gachagua had made it clear that Luo Nyanza does not have shares in the government he formed with President Ruto. That kind of a leader does not mean well for our people, hence should be ignored,” he said on Friday, as reported by People Daily.

He said if Gachagua believed some people are not worth being in government when he was Deputy President, leading the same people into power sharing talks with him would be a waste of time.

“If the Luo Community did not have shares when he was DP, why should we engage such a person, we can’t have any meaningful agenda with him.”

Regarding talks with Ruto, he said his party will be pushing for government positions, development in its regions and a guarantee that ODM and it’s strongholds fully enjoy the benefits of being in government.

He is leading one faction of ODM supporting Ruto’s reelection bid, as the other, led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, pushes for the party to have its own presidential candidate in the election.
