Two Nairobi youths say they never received boda bodas promised at a State House empowerment event.
Two young men, Collins Otwala and Dickens Kamau Odhiambo, have raised complaints over motorcycles they claim were promised to them at a youth empowerment event hosted at State House.
The event, held on Saturday, August 9, showcased motorcycles being distributed to selected youth groups. Otwala and Odhiambo say they posed for photographs beside the bikes, believing they were among the beneficiaries, but days later they were left empty-handed.
The duo allege that instead of receiving the promised boda bodas, they started getting anonymous phone calls warning them to keep quiet.
“What we thought was an opportunity to change our lives has left us with fear and disappointment,” one of them told reporters.
Their account has since spread widely online, fueling outrage among Kenyans.
The controversy has intensified calls for accountability in government-led empowerment programs, with many asking for clarity on how the motorcycles were distributed. Critics argue that the lack of transparency risks undermining the very communities such programs are meant to uplift.
